From a vulnerable child in care to a PhD holder, university lecturer, and CPS leader - Majid's journey is living proof that investing in children can transform lives for generations.

When Majid Khan lost his mother to breast cancer at just nine years old, his world changed overnight. After living with relatives for a short period, he entered CPS care in 2002 as a young boy facing an uncertain future.
At CPS, Majid found more than shelter - he found stability, encouragement, and people who believed in him. Through the support of dedicated caregivers, volunteers, and educational programmes, he was given opportunities to learn, grow, and dream beyond his circumstances.
One of the moments that left a lasting impression on him was meeting volunteer tutors from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), who regularly visited the shelter to teach and mentor the children. Inspired by their kindness and dedication, Majid began to dream of one day attending university himself.
When CPS later transitioned him into a community-based outreach and learning programme in Kedah, the organisation continued to support his education, providing school supplies, pocket money, groceries, mentorship, and a safe environment where he could focus on his studies.
With unwavering determination and the continued support of CPS, Majid excelled academically. After completing secondary school, he pursued higher education, earning a double degree in Mathematics and Economics from Universiti Malaysia Sabah. His passion for mathematics and machine learning led him even further, culminating in the completion of a PhD in 2016.
In 2017, Majid achieved a milestone that once seemed unimaginable - he became a lecturer at Universiti Sains Malaysia, the very institution whose student volunteers had inspired him years earlier.
Today, Majid remains actively involved with CPS, serving on its main committee and supporting the Learning Centre that helped shape his future. His journey is a powerful reminder that with the right support, guidance, and opportunities, a child's circumstances do not define their future.
"Believe in yourselves and you will also shine one day."
Majid's story reflects the lasting impact that care, education, and community support can have on a child's life. What began as a story of loss and hardship became a story of resilience, achievement, and hope - proving that every child deserves the opportunity to dream, grow, and succeed.
Stories like Majid's are only possible because of people who choose to care.
To every donor, volunteer, partner, and supporter who has walked alongside us - thank you. Your kindness creates opportunities, transforms lives, and helps children discover a future filled with possibility.
