OUR STORY

A Legacy of Care.

Children’s Protection Society Malaysia (CPSM) began with a simple but powerful belief - that every child deserves to grow up in a safe, loving, and supportive environment. In the early 1990s, CPS founder Dato' Seri Nazir Ariff became increasingly concerned about the growing number of children experiencing neglect, abandonment, and unsafe living conditions. At the time, rapid urban and industrial growth meant many families were struggling, and vulnerable children often had nowhere to turn. After encountering families in crisis and discovering that many neglected children did not qualify for existing orphanage services, Datuk Seri Nazir Ariff and a group of dedicated friends, including medical professionals and community leaders, came together to create a solution. In 1991, they established the Children's Protection Society in Penang with a mission to provide protection, care, and hope to children at risk. Officially launched in April 1992, CPS began as a safe temporary shelter for children facing neglect, abandonment, and hardship. What started as a small community initiative soon evolved into a long-term commitment to helping children heal, rebuild confidence, access education, and work towards brighter futures. Over the past three decades, CPS has supported thousands of children through shelter, rehabilitation, education, counselling, family reintegration, and community outreach programmes. Beyond providing immediate care, the organisation has worked closely with families, government agencies, educators, healthcare professionals, and community partners to strengthen child protection systems and advocate for greater awareness of child welfare issues in Malaysia. Today, CPSM continues to build on the vision that inspired its founding more than 30 years ago - creating safer environments for children, strengthening communities, and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to feel protected, valued, and empowered to thrive.

Our Founder & President

The Vision
That Started It All

For Dato' Seri Nazir Ariff, helping children was never simply about providing a roof over their heads. It was about ensuring that every child was given the opportunity to feel protected, valued, supported, and empowered to build a better future.

His unwavering compassion and commitment to child welfare helped shape the values that continue to guide CPSM today - compassion, dignity, protection, and hope.

Today, that vision continues to guide CPSM as we work to ensure that every child feels safe, valued, and empowered to reach their full potential.
