AWARENESS, EDUCATION & EARLY PREVENTION
Most child abuse does not begin with violence. It begins with silence, confusion, fear — and adults not knowing what to look for.
In Malaysia, thousands of children face abuse, neglect, exploitation and unsafe environments every year, yet many cases go unreported because families and communities don’t recognise the warning signs or know where to seek help.
Child protection is not just the responsibility of parents or authorities. It belongs to all of us.
This month marks the launch of Safe Child, Strong Nation — a national movement to educate, empower and mobilise Malaysians to protect children before harm happens.
This month we begin by teaching the fundamentals: what child protection means, how abuse happens, how to recognise it, and what to do when a child needs help.
Episode 1: "Safe Child, Strong Nation: Kenapa Malaysia Perlukan Gerakan Ini?"
AWARENESS & PREVENTION
Bullying is not a rite of passage.
It causes real, lasting psychological damage — and most children never tell an adult it's happening.
Many parents don't realise their child is either being bullied or is the bully. With school back in session, the classroom becomes a space where silence enables harm. Bystanders who say nothing become part of the problem.
This month we train students, teachers and parents to recognise bullying and build a school culture where no child suffers in silence.
Episode 2: "Diam Sama Dengan Bersubahat: Kuasa Saksi Buli"
COMMUNITY & NATIONAL UNITY
Sports should build a child up — not put them at risk.
But abuse by coaches and authority figures in athletic environments is vastly underreported.
Children are taught to obey their coaches without question, making them uniquely vulnerable. Most parents don't know what appropriate coaching boundaries look like — or that locker room abuse is among the most underreported forms of harm against young athletes.
This month we define what safe coaching looks like and give every young athlete in Malaysia the right to speak up.
Episode 3: "Jurulatih Bukan Tuan: Keselamatan Atlet Muda Malaysia"
COMMUNITY & NATIONAL UNITY
Places of worship are among the most trusted spaces in Malaysian life — and that trust must be protected, not exploited.
Religious institutions have a responsibility to be sanctuaries for children, not spaces where abuse is hidden by silence or shame.
Most faith communities have no formal child safeguarding policy. This leaves children exposed in environments where they are taught to respect authority without question.
This month we work with mosques, churches, temples and interfaith councils to make every faith space in Malaysia genuinely safe for every child.
Episode 4: "Agama Pelindung, Bukan Pelindung Pemangsa"
NATIONAL CHILD SAFETY ACTION MONTH
One in four children who experience abuse never tell anyone — not a parent, not a teacher, not a friend.
The signs are there. Most adults just don't know what to look for. This is our most important month. Child Safety Week brings nationwide events, school activations and community programmes across Malaysia.
This month we make child safety impossible to ignore.
Episode 5: "Nampak Tapi Tak Nampak: Tanda-Tanda Anak Tidak Selamat"
MENTAL HEALTH + RIGHTS
A child doesn't have to be physically harmed to be deeply hurt.
Emotional abuse, neglect and trauma leave wounds that are invisible but devastating — affecting how a child learns, forms relationships and sees themselves for the rest of their life.
Most parents don't recognise the signs of depression or trauma responses in their own children. They mistake withdrawal for shyness, anger for bad behaviour and silence for contentment.
This month we break the stigma around child mental health and give families the language to start the conversation.
Episode 6: "Luka Yang Tak Nampak: Trauma Kanak-Kanak Itu Real"
AWARENESS & PREVENTION
Your child's biggest threat may not be a stranger on the street — it's someone they've been chatting with online for weeks.
Predators use games, social media and messaging apps to build trust with children before exploiting them. Most parents don't know that sextortion, cyber grooming and online sexual abuse are happening to Malaysian children as young as 10.
This month we equip families with the knowledge to protect their children in digital spaces.
Episode 7: "Sangka Kawan, Rupanya Pemangsa: Bahaya Dunia Online"
SYSTEM STRENGTHENING
The most powerful protection a child can have is a parent who knows how to talk to them.
But many parents were never taught how to discuss body safety, consent or what to do if someone makes their child uncomfortable.
Some confuse discipline with abuse without realising it. Others are so afraid of the conversation that they never have it — leaving their child without the words to ask for help when they need it most.
This month we give parents practical tools — not lectures — to become the safe person their child turns to when something is wrong.
Episode 8: "Sayang Bukan Rotan: Disiplin Positif di Rumah"
SYSTEM STRENGTHENING
Many Malaysians don't report child abuse because they don't know how, they fear nothing will be done, or they worry about making things worse.
This fear of reporting is one of the biggest barriers to justice for child victims in Malaysia.
The Sexual Offences Against Children Act gives children real legal protection — but only if people know how to use it. Teachers, doctors and community leaders have a legal duty to report and most are unaware of it.
This month we demystify the reporting process and make sure no Malaysian ever stays silent because they didn't know what to do.
Episode 9: "Bila Anak Jadi Mangsa: Apa Undang-Undang Boleh Buat?"
SYSTEM STRENGTHENING
Schools have a legal duty of care for every child in their premises
— but not every school has a clear safeguarding policy, a trained counsellor or a safe reporting channel. Children spend more waking hours at school than anywhere else.
Most teachers want to help but don't know the signs of abuse, don't know who to report to and fear getting it wrong. That hesitation costs children the intervention they desperately need.
This month we work with teachers, school leaders and the Ministry of Education to make every classroom in Malaysia a place where children are protected, not just educated.
Episode 10: "Sekolah Selamat? Buli, Guru & Tanggungjawab Undang-Undang"
AWARENESS & PREVENTION
Abuse doesn't only happen in dark alleyways.
It happens in homes, at family gatherings, in familiar neighbourhoods — often by someone the child knows and trusts. During school holidays, children are more vulnerable with less supervision and fewer safe structured environments.
This month we mobilise communities, neighbours and local leaders to become the first line of protection for every child around them.
Episode 11: "Rumah, Masjid, Taman: Di Mana Sebenarnya Bahaya?"
NATIONAL ACCOUNTABILITY & FUTURE PLANNING
One year. Twelve themes.
Millions of Malaysians reached. This month we publish our National Child Protection Report — measuring what changed, what was reported, what was acted on and what still needs to be done.
We celebrate the communities, schools and organisations who stepped up, and we lay out the roadmap for 2027–2028. Because protecting children is not a campaign. It is a permanent national commitment. The CPSM Gala unites government, corporate and community leaders in a national commitment to child protection.
This is not the end. This is the beginning.
Episode 12: "Tahun Ini Kita Berani: Apa Yang Berubah?"
